Natural Remedies for a Yeast Infection

No woman likes to find themselves with a yeast infection because of the burning sensation and itching that comes along with the infection. Although it is more common among women, if a man has intimate relations with a woman who has a yeast infection, he may also become infected. They seem to happen more often as a woman ages.

Before you buy an over-the-counter medication to take care of the burning and itching, here are some natural remedies that you can try first.

You can get plain yogurt and use it both internally and externally to help fight yeast infections with the good bacteria that is found in yogurt. It has to be unsweetened to work because the yeast infection will actually thrive on sugar. You should eat some before each meal to help with digestion. If you opt to use it for external treatment, you can put some yogurt on a tampon and use the tampon as you normally would if you were on your period. You can also apply some of the yogurt to the outside. Make sure that you do not leave it in for too long because if you do it can have counterproductive effect. When the itch is gone, wipe off the yogurt.

Another good yeast fighter is garlic. You can put a garlic clove or tablet on the area that is infected for several hours at a time. If you are using the tablets make sure that they are natural and pure.

Another natural remedy is to use apple cider vinegar, which can be taking internally and externally. Make sure that if you are going to apply it to the outside that you dilute the cup of the vinegar into the hot water for your bath because it is too strong to apply directly to your skin. It has to be natural apple cider vinegar and not the white vinegar because this kind will just make the yeast grow. If the pain, burning, and itching does not go away on its own with using these natural remedies, you should make an appointment with your physician.
